One of the joys of moving to a brand new place is learning about the small cultural differences between your old home and your new one. I have only recently come to appreciate, for instance, just how big a deal Halloween is in England.
When I lived in Switzerland, we didn’t celebrate Halloween. We knew what it was of course - we aren’t that far removed from the rest of the world! However, it was by no means a major part of our culture. At least, not in the way it is here in London. This week, in the build up to Halloween, I have been stunned by the amount of events, products and entertainment in the city that has been themed around Halloween.
This will be the first year I celebrate Halloween now I have residence in the UK. It will be fun to see what I have been missing out on for all these years. Maybe I will watch a spooky movie. Maybe I will go to a Halloween themed party. I would even consider going trick-or-treating, but it is probably not the best way to introduce myself to the neighbours after moving into my home!
One thing I will definitely do for Halloween though is trial some of the makeup ideas I have had in mind. I have come up with some inspirations in collaboration with Minas to get a gothic look perfect for the festivities. The Halloween themed makeup is easy to do with just a few simple products and it is a great alternative to the usual fancy dress.
