Don’t think it’s just women with unusual ideas for what to wear when they die though. One fifth of men surveyed by Lyst must think passing away is like going on holiday because they would opt to wear a pair of flip-flops. One third would even sport a baseball cap.
Death is quite a taboo subject since, due to medical advances, most people pass away in hospitals and nursing homes now. As we don’t tend to witness it, unlike decades ago when it was more common for people to die at home, it is something we tend not to acknowledge. Therefore, thinking about what to wear when you die might seem morbid to a lot of people. I do understand it though. After all, it will be the last memory people have of you. You may want to look your best.
Since reading Lyst’s survey, it encouraged me to think about what I myself would like to wear when I die. I would want to wear a bikini. Everyone who knows me is aware of the fact that I am at my most comfortable in a bikini.
Lyst have come up with the bizarrely brilliant idea of creating the Over My Dead Body collection inspired by people’s answers to their survey. It includes a red Roland Mouret pencil dress, a Fleur Du Dal kimono and even some racy Agent Provocateur underwear. They also have a Death Threads package to inform your next of kin about what outfit you have picked out for your funeral when you die!
